The Minnesota Recreation and Park Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Minnesota communities by supporting recreation and parks through education, grants and assistance to the Minnesota Recreation and Park Association. The Foundation's efforts are encouraged and supported by the Minnesota Recreation and Park Association and its members. The Foundation was established in 1972 and incorporated as a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation in 1973.As a result, all membership dues and contributions to the Foundation are tax deductible. The organization's membership currently consists of over 150 park and recreation professionals from throughout Minnesota. The affairs of the Foundation are governed by a Board of Trustees that meets on a monthly basis to direct the activitie sof the organization. Funds raised by the Foundation and its members are used for a variety of worthwhile projects and initiatives including:
Scholarships for students pursuing studies in the field of parks and recreation. …..the Foundation has provided tens of thousands of dollars of financial support to 84 students in the past 23 years.
New Initiative Grants ….. funding is provided by the MRPF each year for programs and services that demonstrate innovation in parks and recreation. These start-up grants allow agencies to try some new programs that may not be in their budget allocations.
Continuing Education ….. sponsorship of speakers at MRPA Conferences and seminars. The Foundation is also a co-sponsor of the very successful MRPA Leadership Academy.
